How to Set Up MCXboxBroadcast on Your Minecraft Server

Set up MCXboxBroadcast so Xbox, PlayStation and Switch friends can join your Geyser server from their friends list, plus the address fix for failed joins.

QUICK ANSWER

MCXboxBroadcast is a free Geyser extension that signs in to a spare Xbox account and shows your server to that account's friends as a joinable world. Upload MCXboxBroadcastExtension.jar to Geyser's extensions folder, restart, enter the console code at microsoft.com/link, and set the broadcast address to the Bedrock IP and port that already work. Console players then add the account as a friend and join from the Worlds tab.

Runs as
A Geyser extension, or a standalone Java 17+ program
Needs
A spare Microsoft account with an Xbox profile
Friend cap
2,000 friends per account

What MCXboxBroadcast does

Xbox, PlayStation and Switch players cannot type in a server address. Every third-party server they join, a Java server running Geyser or a world on Bedrock server hosting, needs a workaround such as a DNS redirect or a friends-list broadcast.

MCXboxBroadcast is the friends-list one. It signs in to an Xbox account and lists your server as a joinable world for every friend of that account, named after your MOTD and showing the player count. When someone joins, the tool hands them over to your real address and port and logs it in the console:

Transferred bedrock client <gamertag> (<xuid>) to target server.

Before you start

  • A Java server with Geyser that Bedrock players can already join by address and port. The Geyser setup guide covers the plugin and the extra Bedrock port, and running geyser connectiontest <ip> <port> in the console checks that the port is reachable.
  • A spare Microsoft account with an Xbox profile to run the broadcast. The project's own disclaimer suggests an alt account in case it gets banned, because the tool emulates some features of a game client, which may or may not be allowed under the terms of service.
  • For your console friends: multiplayer on a console needs Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Plus or Nintendo Switch Online, the same as joining any friend's world.

Install the extension on your server

The jar goes into Geyser's extensions folder, not into plugins: it is a Geyser extension, not a Paper plugin, so Paper would not load it. On Fabric or NeoForge the folder is config/Geyser-Fabric/extensions or config/Geyser-NeoForge/extensions. On a CraftLands Java server with Geyser installed:

  1. 1Download MCXboxBroadcastExtension.jar from the GitHub releases page or Modrinth. This guide was checked against build 157, released 25 September 2026.
  2. 2In your server panel, open Files and go to plugins/Geyser-Spigot. The extensions folder sits next to Geyser's own config.yml.

  1. 3Open extensions, click New, choose File From Upload and select the jar (the same upload as a custom plugin).
  2. 4Restart the server and open Console. Once Geyser has started, the extension prints a sign-in line:
To sign in, use a web browser to open the page https://www.microsoft.com/link and enter the code XXXXXXXX to authenticate.
  1. 5Open that page on any device, enter the code and sign in with the spare account using its password. If sign-in keeps failing with invalid_grant, the tool itself asks for a password rather than a passwordless method.
  2. 6Wait for these two lines in the console:
Successfully authenticated as <gamertag> (<xuid>) with <count>/2000 friends
Creation of Xbox LIVE session was successful!

The sign-in is saved to cache.json in the extension's folder, so later restarts skip the code.

Point the broadcast at your Bedrock address

The first start also writes plugins/Geyser-Spigot/extensions/mcxboxbroadcast/config.yml. Two settings in its session section decide where console players are sent:

config.yml
session:
  remote-address: auto
  remote-port: auto

With auto, the port is the Bedrock port in Geyser's config.yml, which is right as long as players connect on that same port. The address is Geyser's bind address, and when that is a local one such as 0.0.0.0 the tool looks up the server's public IPv4 online. The config's own comment says you likely want your server's public IP here instead, so set it to the address Bedrock players already type:

  1. 1Open Network in the panel and note the IP under Hostname and the Bedrock port you added for Geyser.
geyser-network.webp
  1. 2Put your own IP in the extension's config.yml, in place of the example address. Leave remote-port on auto unless players join on a different port than the one in Geyser's config.yml.
config.yml
session:
  remote-address: "203.0.113.10"
  remote-port: auto
  1. 3Save and restart the whole server. The /mcxboxbroadcast restart console command only reconnects to Xbox Live; it does not read config.yml again.

How console players join

  1. 1In Minecraft, open the Social tab from the Play screen. It was called Friends before Bedrock 1.21.120.
  2. 2Search for the broadcast account's gamertag and add it as a friend. Since Bedrock 26.30 this sends a friend request.
  3. 3The tool accepts pending requests by itself, logs Added <gamertag> (<xuid>) as a friend and sends the new friend an invite.
  4. 4Open the Worlds tab. Your server is listed as a friend's world with your MOTD and player count. Select it to join.

Friends can also follow the account from the Xbox app instead; with auto-follow on, the tool follows them back.

Friend list settings

These sit under friend-sync and session in the same config.yml:

Setting

Default

What it does

friend-sync.auto-follow

true

Accepts friend requests and follows back anyone who follows the account

friend-sync.auto-unfollow

true

Unfollows people who stop following the account

friend-sync.initial-invite

true

Sends an invite when a new friend is added

friend-sync.expiry.enabled and days

true, 15

Removes friends who have not joined the server for 15 days

friend-sync.update-interval

60

Seconds between friend list syncs, 20 at the lowest

session.update-interval

30

Seconds between session updates, 20 at the lowest

A friend removed by expiry only has to send the request again. One Xbox account holds at most 2,000 friends; past that the console logs Friend list full, and the tool can run extra accounts through its accounts commands.

Broadcast a Bedrock server with the standalone jar

A Bedrock Dedicated Server has no Geyser, so there is nothing for the extension to load into. The standalone build does the same job from any 64-bit Windows, macOS or Linux computer that stays on, and also works for a Bedrock server you set up yourself.

  1. 1Install Java 17 or newer. Build 157 is compiled for Java 17.
  2. 2Download MCXboxBroadcastStandalone.jar from the releases page and start it:
java -jar MCXboxBroadcastStandalone.jar
  1. 3Sign in with the code it prints, the same way as above.
  2. 4Open the config.yml it creates, set ip and port under session-info to your Bedrock server's address, and restart the tool.

With query-server left on, it copies the server's MOTD and player count. The broadcast lasts only while the tool runs, because every joining player passes through it before being handed to your server. The project also publishes a Docker image, ghcr.io/mcxboxbroadcast/standalone:latest.

If friends see the server but cannot join

  • Multiplayer connection failed. Check that remote-address and remote-port (or ip and port on the standalone) match the address that already works from a phone or PC. The maintainer points to this on connection reports (GitHub issues 283, 329 and 384).
  • The console logs "Transferred bedrock client" but the player never arrives. The tool did its part, so the address it sent them to is wrong or the Bedrock port does not accept UDP. Compare it with the Network page and see the ports guide.
  • The server is not listed at all. Look for the Added <gamertag> line. Removed <gamertag> (<xuid>) as a friend due to restrictions on their account usually means that player's Xbox privacy settings block friend requests.
  • "Authentication failed due to the account requiring age verification". Sign in at xbox.com with the spare account, finish the check, and restart.

How do you join a Geyser server on Xbox?

Xbox has no field for a server address, so there are two routes. The server owner can run MCXboxBroadcast, and you add its account as a friend and join from the Worlds tab. Or you change the console's DNS to a BedrockConnect server, the method GeyserMC's console guide describes for Xbox One, Switch and PS4.

Where to go next

If Bedrock players cannot join by address yet, finish the Geyser setup first, since the broadcast only forwards them to that address. Friends on phones and Windows can skip the broadcast and add your server directly, as How to Join a Minecraft Server shows.

Play This Together on Bedrock

A Bedrock server is one world your friends can join from Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, mobile or Windows at the same address. Add-ons and behaviour packs upload straight from the panel, and the server is online about thirty seconds after you order.
