Rust admin commands

The Rust admin commands worth knowing, how to grant ownerid and moderatorid, and how to run them from the console or RCON.

QUICK ANSWER

Console, then: ownerid <steamid64> "name" "reason". Follow it with server.writecfg to save it.

Fact
ownerid and moderatorid grants only stick around if you run server.writecfg right after, otherwise a restart wipes them since they're never written to users.cfg.

Rust Admin Commands and Console Reference

This doc shows Rust server owners how to grant themselves admin, save it so it survives a restart, F1, or RCON.

Before you start

You'll need your own SteamID64, not your username. Find it on your Steam profile or steamid.io. Run these from the panel Console, the F1 console once granted, or RCON.

Steps

Grant yourself access

  1. 1Open Console in the panel.
  2. 2Run ownerid <steamid64> "yourname" "server owner" for full admin: noclip, give, and spawn included.
  3. 3Or run moderatorid <steamid64> "yourname" "moderator" for just kick, ban, and mute.
  4. 4Run server.writecfg right after. It saves the grant to users.cfg so a restart doesn't wipe it.

Use the F1 console

Once granted, connect and press F1 in game. That opens the console for whatever your access level allows.

Use RCON instead

Connect with an RCON tool, or the panel's RCON tab if it has one, using your server's IP, port, and password. Same commands, no game login needed.

World commands

env.time <0-24> sets the time of day. weather.rain, weather.fog, and weather.wind <0-1> override the current weather.

Verify

Run server.writecfg, then check users.cfg over SFTP, your SteamID should be listed. Reconnect and press F1, admin commands should work.

If it doesn't work

Access resets after a restart: you skipped server.writecfg. Grant it again and save it this time. F1 shows commands that won't run: you're on moderatorid, not ownerid, so noclip, give, and spawn aren't included.

Can I use these commands without being an admin myself?

No, you need ownerid or moderatorid on your own SteamID64 first, RCON and the F1 console both check that grant before running anything.
