What Is a Better MC (BMC4) Server?
Better MC BMC4 is the Forge branch of the Better MC series, currently shipping as v60 for Minecraft 1.20.1. The CurseForge listing counts 350 or more mods and 100 or more quests, plus a vanilla backport that pulls content from 1.20.2 and later into a 1.20.1 world. Nothing here asks you to learn a new tech tree. You play ordinary survival, then keep walking and keep finding things vanilla never put there.
Progression runs on exploration rather than tech gates. When Dungeons Arise and AdoraBuild: Structures scatter thousands of dungeons across the map, strongholds and fortresses arrive overhauled instead of vanilla, and Mowzie's Mobs plus Cataclysm supply the set-piece bosses. The Aether returns as a full dimension with Deep Aether, Aether Redux and Aether Villages layered on it. Waystones, XP Tomes and Xaero's Minimap keep travel from becoming a chore, and rideable dragons cover the longer hops.
The weight comes from breadth, not from one expensive system. Over 350 mods means a long registry pass on first boot, and the overhauled worldgen makes fresh chunks costly because Biomes o' Plenty terrain and dozens of structure sets get evaluated together, with Geophilic reshaping vanilla biomes on top. The Aether is a second full dimension your server ticks whenever anyone is in it. Once the map is explored, load settles.
BMC4 suits groups who want vanilla rules to still hold while every biome hides something, and it is approachable for players who have never run a Forge pack before. Agree on waystone naming early, because the shared network fills up fast. Pre-generate a few thousand blocks around spawn before you invite everyone, and watch how far apart people wander, since scattered players each hold their own chunks loaded.

How Much RAM Does a Better MC (BMC4) Server Need?
8 GB before anyone joins, then roughly 0.2 GB per player online.
8 GB is the pack's floor with nothing above it, so it covers zero players on our sizing. A Forge pack this size at 8 GB spends its time in garbage collection and often dies partway through the modpack load.
Covers up to 20 players. This is the tier that absorbs the Aether ticking alongside the overworld while a group explores in several directions at once.
Covers up to 40 players. Worth it when parties stay split across distant biomes and the Aether, which is where BMC4 worldgen gets expensive.
Sized from Better MC (BMC4)'s 8 GB floor plus 0.2 GB per concurrent player. You can move between these tiers from the panel at any time, prorated to the day.
