About the Modpack

What Is a DarkRPG Server?

DarkRPG is a Fabric pack for Minecraft 1.20.1 that lays a character sheet over survival. Before you swing anything you choose an Aspect, then an Origin, a Type, a Divine Aspect and a Class, and the pack invites you to mix and match those layers. Build 9.0.0 arrived in July 2026 with a manifest of 522 mods, and the RPG framing runs deep: Spell Engine, RPGMana and Pufferfish's Skills rebuild combat around mana, spells and skill trees.

Two quest systems run side by side. The I key opens FTB Quests categories, the L key opens the advancement-based DarkQuesting chain, and together they hold the 1800 plus quests the pack advertises. Between them you level Magic, Combat and Mining, take on Bosses of Mass Destruction, raid the structures that When Dungeons Arise and Awesome Dungeon add for Simply Swords and MC Dungeons gear, then gamble the proceeds at the Creeper and XP casinos.

For 522 mods it treats a server reasonably well. FerriteCore trims memory, ServerCore and ModernFix cut startup and tick overhead, Neruina catches ticking entity crashes instead of letting them halt the world, and DarkTimer clears entity lag on a schedule. Sodium and the bundled shader packs, AstraLex and BSL among them, never touch the server. The real per-player cost is Origins data: origin, class, skill tree and spell loadout all sync on join.

DarkRPG works best for a group that wants roles: a mage on Path of the Wizard, someone stacking Simply Swords, someone working the Diamond Auction House. Open Parties and Claims lets each player protect a base, which matters if you run it semi-public. CraftLands preinstalls the Fabric build with its loader before first boot, and full file access plus the automatic backups included on every plan makes keeping up with a pack that is still being updated straightforward.

6 GB is the low end of the pack's own suggestion and leaves no allowance for players, so a single login pushes it over. Loading 522 Fabric mods eats most of the heap before anyone connects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Loaders, pack sources, memory and cost, answered for modded Minecraft specifically.

Which DarkRPG build does the server run?

The Fabric edition, 9.0.0 from July 2026, on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Fabric loader 0.18.6. The author also maintains a separate Forge pack and a 1.18.2 REDUX pack, and worlds are not interchangeable between those lines, so decide which one you want before the first world.

Players get an origins ID error when joining. How do we fix it?

The author documents this one. Create a singleplayer world first, cycle through the origins and classes until everything has fully loaded, then quit and rejoin the server. It normally only needs doing once per client installation rather than per session.

Why do players crash during boss fights?

The author traces it to particle handling on older Java builds and asks players to update to at least Java 17.0.11. It is a client-side fix, so the server needs no change, but tell everyone before your first Bosses of Mass Destruction attempt.

How much RAM does a DarkRPG server want?

The pack page suggests 6 to 8 GB in the CurseForge app, and we size servers from 6 GB plus 0.2 GB per concurrent player. That makes 8 GB the recommended plan for 10 players, and 12 GB the step for 30 if you intend to run a public roleplay server.

Can players claim land and protect their builds?

Yes. Open Parties and Claims is bundled, so players claim chunks, form parties and keep gear safe from each other. Combined with the Diamond Economy currency and the Diamond Auction House, that is why DarkRPG holds up as a semi-public server rather than only a closed friends world.

Where are the rest of the quests?

There are two separate systems and new players routinely find only one. Press I for the FTB Quests interface, then hover the left edge to reveal the other categories, and press L for the advancement-based DarkQuesting chain that carries the boss and casino objectives.
