What Is a Vault Hunters Server?
Vault Hunters Third Edition builds an action RPG around a single dimension. You mine Chromatic Iron below Y-30 and Vault Stone below Y-5, which has a ten percent chance to drop a Vault Rock. Put the rock on a Vault Altar, feed it whatever items it asks for, then hit it with a redstone signal to finish a Vault Crystal. Right-click that crystal on a Vault Portal to enter. Natural healing does not work inside, so you need the Heal ability or a Vault Potion.
Every run carries one of six objectives: Elixir, Light the Braziers, Scavenger, Bingo, Rune Boss or Cake Hunt. Clearing it pays vault XP and a Completion Crate you open back in the overworld. Levels buy abilities, talents and expertise on the skill tree, while Knowledge Stars unlock the pack's mods one at a time through research. From level 40, God Altars start spawning in vault rooms, offering tasks that build reputation with the four Vault Gods up to a cap of 50.
The overworld half is ordinary 1.18.2 Forge. Vaults are not. Each crystal spins up a fresh procedural dungeon with its own rooms, chests and dense mob spawns, and it exists only for that one run. Two or three hunters in separate vaults means two or three of those generating and ticking at the same time, on top of whatever the base is doing. That burst of generation, rather than the base itself, is the biggest source of lag here.
Vault Hunters rewards groups happy to climb a long ladder: 25 unique artifacts, the final boss, then the Greed end-game loot added in Update 21. Research can be shared across a team, so nobody sits waiting on one person's unlocks. Size the server for how many people are vaulting at the same moment rather than how many sit on the whitelist, and treat single-thread CPU speed as the spec that decides how a vault feels.
How Much RAM Does a Vault Hunters Server Need?

The pack's 6 GB base with nothing on top. Vault Hunters boots, but a vault instance generating alongside your base has no heap to grow into, and the usual symptom is a crash at the portal.
Rated for 10 players. Enough for one or two vaults generating while the overworld base keeps ticking, which is the normal shape of a small co-op world.
Rated for 30 players. The size to pick when several hunters run separate vaults in one session, because every active vault is its own temporary dimension held in memory.
