What Is an RLCraft Server?
RLCraft is Shivaxi's realism and RPG take on survival, and release 2.9.3 still runs on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge 14.23.5.2860, which means Java 8. You cannot punch trees, most blocks need the right tool, and SimpleDifficulty layers thirst and body temperature on top of that. First Aid swaps the single health bar for individual body parts, so a bad fall leaves you with a broken leg rather than a few missing hearts.
Reskillable gates weapons, armor and tools behind skill levels, so the first hours are about surviving long enough to raise Attack and Defense. After that the loop runs through AtomicStryker's Battle Towers, Roguelike Dungeons Fnar's Edition, Doomlike Dungeons and The Lost Cities, then Lycanites Mobs and Ice and Fire dragons. Taming a Lycanites creature starts with a Soulgazer, worth 100 knowledge experience per study against 25 for a kill.
The 2.9.3 manifest lists 177 mods and 10 resource packs, so raw mod count is not what hurts. Lycanites spawns custom mobs with their own AI and projectiles across every biome, Champions bolts extra affixes onto them, and Scape and Run: Parasites grows a population of its own. Battle Towers are configured to keep at least 800 blocks between each other, so exploring means constant structure generation on a single threaded 1.12.2 engine.
The pack ships a note for server owners listing four settings: allow-flight, difficulty 3, max-tick-time of minus one, and enable-command-block. Skip the last and structures generate without their villagers. Skip the first and anyone on a flying mount gets kicked. Shivaxi suggests view-distance 10, lowered to 8 or 6 under load, and pre-generating the map before you go past ten players.
How Much RAM Does a RLCraft Server Need?
6 GB before anyone joins, then roughly 0.2 GB per player online.
RLCraft wants 6 GB before a single player connects, so a 6 GB plan has nothing left for the first join. Expect near constant garbage collection and a stall whenever a Lycanites pack spawns nearby.
Covers 10 players, which is also the point where Shivaxi's own notes start recommending a pre-generated map. Load here comes from mobs, dragons and dungeons rather than machines.
Covers 30 players. Worth it if your server explores hard, since Battle Towers sit 800 blocks apart and Lost Cities chunks pile up faster than anything else in the pack.
