SkyFactory 4 starts you on a tree above the void. Darkosto rebuilt resource gathering around Sky Orchards, so instead of sieving gravel you grow bonsai resource trees whose leaves drop ore acorns and whose logs drop ore resin, which the pack turns into ore amber and then into ingots. The 4.2.4 release ships more than 30 world types, from the classic tree on dirt to Skygrid, Compactsky, Lostcities and Cave Dimension, each with its own recipes and advancements.

Progression rides the vanilla advancement system rather than an achievement book, so the game tracks what you have done and suggests what is next without forcing a quest line on you. Prestige is the optional layer: mods, items and mechanics stay locked until you spend points, which you earn from advancements or from the Parabox, a time-traveling box that generates them. Prestige is per player, and the pack's own server guide warns that single player progress does not transfer onto a server.

Skyblock keeps worldgen cheap, since there is almost no terrain to generate. The bill arrives with automation instead. SkyFactory 4 bundles 202 mods including Applied Energistics 2, Mekanism, Industrial Foregoing, XNet and Mystical Agriculture, and a mature island moves hundreds of items and fluids every tick. All of it runs on single-threaded Forge 14.23.5 for 1.12.2 under Java 8, so heap size and tick time decide how it feels far more than core count does.

SkyFactory 4 suits groups who would rather build machines than fight things, and swapping the world type gives a stale server a genuinely different restart. Two server details catch people out. The world type comes from generator-settings plus level-type in server.properties and has to be chosen before first boot, and prestige lives in prestige.cfg, which every pack update overwrites. Together Forever handles teams, and closing the Parabox loop needs a server restart to finish.
