What Is a Create: Astral Server?

Create: Astral is a Fabric 1.18.2 pack of 202 mods that routes almost everything back through Create. Tech Reborn processes, Hephaestus smelting and Applied Energistics storage all get custom recipes that end in mechanical crafting, sequenced assembly and filling. The twist is timing: moon rock scattered around the overworld feeds a Shimmer portal you can open early, so space is a path through the pack rather than its trophy.

The questbook holds twelve chapters. Six carry the main line: The Andesite World, Getting Industrial, Remnants of a Lost Civilization, Piglin Peculiarities, Sub-Atomic and The End. Three subchapters cover getting started, Astral Signals and Astral Storage, and three more are reference material, including an FAQ and the Automation Matrix. The Moon, Mars and Mercury each get roughly a chapter, with their own worldgen, structures, oregen and mobs instead of recoloured overworld.

202 mods is small for a tech pack, so an empty Astral world is cheap to run. The bill arrives with the factories. Rotating contraptions, Steam 'n' Rails trains and long belt lines tick for as long as their chunks stay loaded, and a mature base spreads that across three Ad Astra planets. The pack ships Chunky, so pregenerating a spawn radius before players scatter costs you one wait instead of many stutters.

Astral suits people who like being told what to automate next and do not mind losing an evening to a single recipe. It is a bad match for anyone expecting vanilla pacing. On a shared server, give each planet its own factories rather than piling everything at spawn, which keeps stress networks apart and makes a lag spike easy to trace. Note that 2.1.5 also moved the Fabric loader from 0.16.3 to 0.18.4.

Is Create: Astral on Forge or Fabric, and which Minecraft version?

Fabric, on Minecraft 1.18.2, with v2.1.5 as the current release. There is no Forge or NeoForge build and no port to a newer Minecraft, so 1.18.2 is where this pack lives. We install Fabric loader 0.18.4 together with the pack before first boot.

How much RAM does a Create: Astral server need?

6 GB is what we recommend, and it covers 10 players. 4 GB is the amount Astral wants just to start, so it leaves no headroom once anyone joins. 8 GB covers 20 players and is the tier to take if you expect wide contraption networks running on several planets.

Do contraptions keep turning while nobody is online?

No. Create machinery only runs in loaded chunks, so an empty server means an idle factory and no wasted ticks. If you would rather not generate fresh terrain while people are exploring, the bundled Chunky mod can pregenerate a radius before the session starts.

Does our server need any mods installed by hand?

Almost none. Hephaestus entered long-term support for 1.18.2 in v2.1.5, which removed its manual server-side install, though Vinery still needs one. Full file access from the panel handles that in a minute, and anything extra is a one-click install from CurseForge or Modrinth.

Our group is stuck in Chapter 3, is that normal?

Remnants of a Lost Civilization is the documented wall, the point the developers say most players quit as the grind ramps up. Version 2.1.5 targeted it directly with alternate recipes for Integrated Circuits, Brass Casing and Launchpads. If your server sits on an older build, updating the pack is the quickest fix.

How early can we get off the planet?

Earlier than most space packs. Moon rock lies scattered around the overworld and feeds a Shimmer-based portal you can unlock while still building in andesite. Nether resources also turn up on and beyond the Moon, so leaving the planet is part of progression rather than a reward for finishing it.
