What Is a TerraFirmaGreg-Modern Server?

TerraFirmaGreg-Modern welds two total overhauls onto Minecraft 1.20.1 at once. TerraFirmaCraft replaces vanilla survival with knapping, rock layers, ore prospecting, heat management and a real climate, and GregTech Modern replaces vanilla progression with chemistry and voltage tiers. Release 0.13.6 runs on Forge 47.4.13 and pulls 266 mods, and the team describes it as a work in progress that is fully completable today.

The opening hours are exactly what the pack promises: banging rocks together. You knap stone tools, work clay, find copper, then bronze, and only then start thinking about machines. Create and its Greate integration hand you kinetic automation long before GregTech opens up, Applied Energistics 2 arrives once you have the infrastructure to justify it, and Ad Astra closes the pack out with custom planets rather than flat mining dimensions.

The server load here is worldgen shaped rather than mob shaped. TerraFirmaCraft rebuilds terrain into layered rock strata with large ore veins, so every direction someone walks is expensive chunk generation, and prospecting encourages exactly that kind of wandering. Later the cost shifts to GregTech multiblocks and Create contraptions, which are entity heavy by design and tick whether or not anyone is standing next to them.

This is a months long pack, so treat the server as a long lived world. The team ships server packs on their GitHub alongside the CurseForge release and states that worlds stay compatible with future versions, which is unusual for a pack this deep into development. The in-game book and quest system carry the tutorial load, so a group can start without anyone having played TerraFirmaCraft before.

How much RAM does a TerraFirmaGreg-Modern server need?

Take 12 GB, which covers up to 20 players. Two overhauls sharing one world means the pack costs about 8 GB before anyone connects, so the smaller plans leave nothing for the players themselves.

Which Minecraft version and loader does it run on?

Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge 47.4.13, with release 0.13.6 as the current build. It is a Forge pack rather than NeoForge, so anything you add on top has to be a 1.20.1 Forge build.

Will an update wipe our world?

The developers state that worlds stay compatible with future versions of the pack, which is the point of their save format work. Take a backup before every update anyway, since a 266 mod pack can still break on a single bad config carry over.

Why is the early game so slow compared to other tech packs?

TerraFirmaCraft removes the vanilla crafting ladder entirely. Stone tools come from knapping, metal comes from prospecting and smelting in stages, and food spoils. GregTech then gates its own tiers on top, so the first steam machine is a real milestone rather than a first-night task.

Does the pack need a pregenerated map?

It helps more than in most packs. TerraFirmaCraft terrain is expensive to generate and prospecting pushes players outward constantly, so pregenerating the radius you expect to use moves that cost off your play sessions.

Can I add mods or move to a different pack later?

Yes to both. You get full file access plus one-click installs from CurseForge and Modrinth, and you can swap the server to another modpack from the panel on the same plan. We back up your world before the switch.
