What Is a TerraFirmaGreg-Modern Server?
TerraFirmaGreg-Modern welds two total overhauls onto Minecraft 1.20.1 at once. TerraFirmaCraft replaces vanilla survival with knapping, rock layers, ore prospecting, heat management and a real climate, and GregTech Modern replaces vanilla progression with chemistry and voltage tiers. Release 0.13.6 runs on Forge 47.4.13 and pulls 266 mods, and the team describes it as a work in progress that is fully completable today.
The opening hours are exactly what the pack promises: banging rocks together. You knap stone tools, work clay, find copper, then bronze, and only then start thinking about machines. Create and its Greate integration hand you kinetic automation long before GregTech opens up, Applied Energistics 2 arrives once you have the infrastructure to justify it, and Ad Astra closes the pack out with custom planets rather than flat mining dimensions.
The server load here is worldgen shaped rather than mob shaped. TerraFirmaCraft rebuilds terrain into layered rock strata with large ore veins, so every direction someone walks is expensive chunk generation, and prospecting encourages exactly that kind of wandering. Later the cost shifts to GregTech multiblocks and Create contraptions, which are entity heavy by design and tick whether or not anyone is standing next to them.
This is a months long pack, so treat the server as a long lived world. The team ships server packs on their GitHub alongside the CurseForge release and states that worlds stay compatible with future versions, which is unusual for a pack this deep into development. The in-game book and quest system carry the tutorial load, so a group can start without anyone having played TerraFirmaCraft before.
