What Is a Rebirth of the Night Server?
Rebirth of the Night is Foreck1's overhaul of Minecraft 1.12.2, release 3.3.4 from February 2026, built on Forge 14.23.5.2859 with 397 mods behind it. Calling it a mod collection undersells what is actually shipped: the download runs past a gigabyte because the pack carries its own textures, models, scripts and forked builds rather than pulling stock mods and calling it done.
The design goal the team states is verisimilitude, a world that behaves like one game instead of a pile of mods. Vanilla progression is rebuilt rather than extended, seasons pass, day and night cycles run longer than vanilla, and the early game is about scavenging rather than punching trees. The pack takes its cues from Terraria, 7 Days to Die, Vintage Story and Valheim, and it started life around Whitelight's video essays critiquing Minecraft.
For a server the important part is what the monsters do. The pack advertises enemies that mine and build to reach you and combat that is dynamic rather than click-and-wait, which means mob AI here is doing real pathfinding work every tick instead of shuffling toward a wall. On a single threaded 1.12.2 engine that is the load you plan around, not machines.
Java 8 is not optional. The pack wiki is explicit that other Java versions will not work, and its own guidance puts a client allocation at around 6000 MB, which tells you how much the pack expects to hold in memory before anyone else joins. We start the server on the matching runtime, so the only thing your group has to keep in sync is the pack version itself.

How Much RAM Does a Rebirth of the Night Server Need?
6 GB before anyone joins, then roughly 0.2 GB per player online.
Matches what the pack alone expects to use, so nothing is left for players. The first night with several people out in the dark is where it falls over.
Covers 10 players. Leaves enough headroom for the mob AI to keep running while the group is spread across separate chunks.
Covers 30 players. Worth it for a public or community server, where the number of loaded chunks full of active monsters is what sets the tick cost.
Sized from Rebirth of the Night's 6 GB floor plus 0.2 GB per concurrent player. You can move between these tiers from the panel at any time, prorated to the day.
