About the Modpack

What Is a Rebirth of the Night Server?

Rebirth of the Night is Foreck1's overhaul of Minecraft 1.12.2, release 3.3.4 from February 2026, built on Forge 14.23.5.2859 with 397 mods behind it. Calling it a mod collection undersells what is actually shipped: the download runs past a gigabyte because the pack carries its own textures, models, scripts and forked builds rather than pulling stock mods and calling it done.

The design goal the team states is verisimilitude, a world that behaves like one game instead of a pile of mods. Vanilla progression is rebuilt rather than extended, seasons pass, day and night cycles run longer than vanilla, and the early game is about scavenging rather than punching trees. The pack takes its cues from Terraria, 7 Days to Die, Vintage Story and Valheim, and it started life around Whitelight's video essays critiquing Minecraft.

For a server the important part is what the monsters do. The pack advertises enemies that mine and build to reach you and combat that is dynamic rather than click-and-wait, which means mob AI here is doing real pathfinding work every tick instead of shuffling toward a wall. On a single threaded 1.12.2 engine that is the load you plan around, not machines.

Java 8 is not optional. The pack wiki is explicit that other Java versions will not work, and its own guidance puts a client allocation at around 6000 MB, which tells you how much the pack expects to hold in memory before anyone else joins. We start the server on the matching runtime, so the only thing your group has to keep in sync is the pack version itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? Find answers to the most common queries about plans, setup, and managing your game server to help you launch quickly and enjoy smooth multiplayer gameplay.

How much RAM does a Rebirth of the Night server need?

Plan on 8 GB, which covers 10 players, and 12 GB for up to 30. The roughly 6000 MB the pack wiki mentions is the client side allocation, and a server with several players roaming needs more than a single player instance.

Which Java version does it need?

Java 8, and the pack wiki says so in capitals: other versions will not work. That applies to the client too, so anyone joining needs a Java 8 runtime in their launcher.

Why is the download over a gigabyte?

Because the pack ships its own art and code rather than only linking mods. Custom textures, models, scripts and forked mod builds all travel inside the release, which is also why it looks nothing like a stock 1.12.2 pack.

Which Minecraft version and loader does it run on?

Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge 14.23.5.2859, with release 3.3.4 as the current build. Anything added on top has to be a 1.12.2 Forge build, and client and server have to sit on the same pack release.

What actually causes lag on this pack?

Mobs, not machines. Enemies that path, mine and build cost far more per tick than vanilla ones, so a group that spreads out at night is the worst case rather than a group building a base.

Can I add mods or move to a different pack later?

Yes to both. You get full file access plus one-click installs from CurseForge and Modrinth, and you can swap the server to another modpack from the panel on the same plan. We back up your world before the switch.
