What Is a Better MC (BMC5) Server?
Better MC BMC5 is the NeoForge branch of LunaPixelStudios' Better MC series, built on Minecraft 1.21.1 and advertised by its author at over 320 mods. Vanilla progression stays intact while the world around it is redrawn: Oh The Biomes We've Gone and Geophilic rework terrain, Vanilla Backport pulls in content from 1.21.2 and later, and Xaero's Minimap plus Waystones tie the result together. It is survival you already understand, only much larger.
There is no tech tree here, so the loop is exploration. YUNG's rewrites of strongholds, mineshafts, ocean monuments and nether fortresses sit next to Moog's Voyager Structures, AdoraBuild, Structory Towers and When Dungeons Arise. Alex's Mobs, Friends and Foes, Mowzie's Mobs and L_Ender's Cataclysm supply the fights, Dragon Mounts Remastered gives you something to hatch and ride, and FTB Quests points you at the next landmark. The Twilight Forest and the Aether wait behind that.
CurseForge files BMC5 under Small and Light, which describes the client rather than the tick loop. Almost all of the server cost is worldgen: every new chunk runs biome placement through TerraBlender plus dozens of structure sets, so four people riding out in four directions is the worst case. Alex's Mobs raises entity counts on top of that. ScalableLux, Lithium, ModernFix, FerriteCore and spark are bundled to claw some of it back.
Pick BMC5 if your group wants to play on current Minecraft instead of waiting for 1.21 ports of older packs, and if leaving base is the point of your server. Open Parties and Claims ships inside the pack, so members claim their builds without a permissions plugin. Keep view distance modest, add a pregenerator such as Chunky through the panel's Modrinth installer, and take the next v-number as a one-click update.

How Much RAM Does a Better MC (BMC5) Server Need?
8 GB before anyone joins, then roughly 0.2 GB per player online.
8 GB is the pack's own footprint at idle, so nothing is left for players. Expect the JVM to spend more time collecting garbage than ticking, if the 320 plus mods finish loading at all.
Four gigabytes clear of the pack floor, which is 20 players, with enough slack for several of them generating fresh chunks in different directions.
Room for 40 players. Worth taking once you are running events on a pregenerated map rather than one small SMP circle.
Sized from Better MC (BMC5)'s 8 GB floor plus 0.2 GB per concurrent player. You can move between these tiers from the panel at any time, prorated to the day.
