Everything Your Cobblemon Server Needs

Every plan ships the hardware a Cobblemon server actually leans on: spawn ticks, entity counts and Pokédex saves.

One-Click Modpack Install

Cobblemon Official Modpack 1.7.3 on Fabric Loader 0.18.4 is installed before first boot, so nothing needs uploading.

Fabric, Forge & NeoForge

Cobblemon 1.7.3 ships for Fabric and NeoForge on the same day. Swap loaders from the panel, no rebuild.

Support is people who run modded servers themselves. Ask about spawn tuning or the frozen 1.20.1 branch.

DDoS Protection

Public Pokémon servers get listed and draw attention. Filtering stays on through every battle.

Ryzen 9 9950X CPU

Spawn attempts run every twenty ticks on one thread, so clock speed beats core count. Ours boosts to 5.7 GHz.

NVMe Storage

Parties and PC boxes flush to disk every thirty seconds. Free MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Redis included.

About the Modpack

What Is a Cobblemon Server?

The Cobblemon Official Modpack is the Fabric build published by the Cobblemon team, currently 1.7.3 for Minecraft 1.21.1, with a 1.20.1 branch still available at 1.5.2. It wraps the Cobblemon mod in a list of sixty mods rather than reinventing it. You catch Pokémon in the overworld, battle them through the Pokémon Showdown engine, and fill in a Pokédex as you go, with over 700 Pokémon to catch.

The loop is catch, level, evolve, repeat, and the pack keeps it close to the handheld games. Moves unlock as Pokémon level, evolution triggers when you decide rather than automatically, and move relearning follows the Legends Arceus approach. Battles resolve on the Showdown engine so competitive damage math behaves properly, and free movement during battles is a toggle, so you can keep mining while your team fights. Berries cross-breed and fossils revive.

Cobblemon is unusually light for a pack this popular, because most of its mod list never touches the server. Sodium, ImmediatelyFast, LambDynamicLights, Falling Leaves and CIT Resewn are all client-side, leaving the server running Cobblemon, Fabric API and a short set of server-safe helpers like Lithium, Krypton, FerriteCore and Clumps. What does cost you is entity count, because every spawned Pokémon is a ticking mob with its own AI.

It fits mixed-age groups and friends who want something social rather than punishing, since trading and battling each other is the whole point and nobody has to learn a tech tree. Both the modpack and its server package connect to plain Cobblemon servers, so a friend can join with just Fabric API and the mod installed. Battles are turn-based, so pick the location closest to most of your players.

4 GB is the bare floor the pack needs to boot and leaves nothing for players, so it covers none of them. You get long garbage collection pauses as soon as wild Pokémon start spawning around anyone online.

FAQ Quick Help

Frequently Asked Questions

Loaders, pack sources, memory and cost, answered for modded Minecraft specifically.

Which Minecraft version does the Cobblemon pack use?

The current release is 1.7.3 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on Fabric, and a 1.20.1 branch stays published at 1.5.2 for groups with older worlds. Everyone on the server needs the same branch, so decide which one you want before you generate a world.

How much RAM does a Cobblemon server need?

6 GB is the recommended tier and it covers 10 players. Cobblemon is light because most of the pack runs client-side, but 4 GB is only the boot floor and leaves nothing for even one player once wild Pokémon start spawning.

Do my friends need the full modpack to join?

Not necessarily. The modpack and its server package both connect to plain Cobblemon servers, so a friend running only Fabric API and the Cobblemon mod on the same Minecraft version can join. They lose the pack's client-side visuals and performance mods, nothing else.

Can we trade and battle each other on the server?

Yes, player-to-player trading and battling are core Cobblemon features and work in multiplayer. Battles resolve turn by turn through the Showdown engine, so choosing the server location closest to most of your players keeps the pacing tight.

Do too many spawned Pokémon slow the server down?

They can. Spawned Pokémon are ticking entities with AI, so a well-explored world with several players holding chunks open is where it shows. Tuning Cobblemon's spawn config through full file access is usually the fix before you reach for more RAM.

Can we add shaders or extra mods on top?

The pack already bundles Complementary Reimagined and a bushier-leaves resource pack, both disabled by default, and shaders render on each player's own machine. For server-side additions you get full file access plus one-click installs from Modrinth and CurseForge, as long as everything targets Fabric on 1.21.1.

How often does the Cobblemon modpack get updated?

The Cobblemon team ships in clusters: 1.7 landed on 22 November 2025, 1.7.1 seven days later, then 1.7.2 and 1.7.3 six days apart at the end of January 2026. We track that release feed and offer each new build in the panel as a one-click update, so you choose when to take it rather than having it applied mid-season.

Do my Pokémon survive a modpack update?

Yes. The server is backed up before the update runs, and the world folder survives it, including world/pokemon where every party and PC box is stored. Anything you edited under config/cobblemon stays too, so your spawn tuning in spawning.json is kept. If flat files stop suiting you, Cobblemon's storageFormat also accepts mongodb, and a MongoDB instance is free on every plan.

Can I switch the server to NeoForge or another pack later?

Yes. Cobblemon publishes for NeoForge the same day as Fabric, so a loader change is a panel action rather than a rebuild, and there is no setup fee for switching pack. It matters on install too: the pack index marks even its client mods as server-required, Sodium, Iris, Xaero's minimap and FancyMenu included, so we install the server-side set instead.

Start Your Cobblemon Server Today

We size Cobblemon from a 4 GB floor plus roughly 0.2 GB per player, so most groups land on 6 GB for ten people. Every spawned Pokémon is a ticking entity on one thread, so every plan runs a Ryzen 9 9950X boosting to 5.7 GHz. Ask on a ticket for the free 24-hour trial first.
